(St. John Paul II’s Letter to Artists, Section 1 Paragraph 5
Jose Miguel Vasquez is a Colombian-American artist and content creator who initially gave up on his dream of working professionally as an actor when he became a young dad in 2002. He declares “it was God, the Divine Artist, who mercifully brought acting back to me.” Today, thanks to the support of his remarkable wife and kids, and the rest of his creative team, he’s been able to work as an actor and teaching artist for almost 14 years and counting.
As an actor he’s known for his work on Netflix’s WWII stylistic drama, The Liberator where he played “Corporal Gomez,” the Karate Kid nostalgic hit series, Cobra Kai, where he played “Principal Lopez,” AMC’s The Walking Dead, and the feature film Brian Banks directed by Tom Shadyac, where he shared the screen with highly respected actors such as Greg Kinnear, Aldis Hodge, Sherri Sheperd and Morgan Freeman. Recently he’s worked on the Amazon Prime/freevee series Leverage Redemption as billionaire tech genius “Darren Nash.”
After graduating from the University of Central Florida in 2008 he began to fully study and practice the craft of acting at Meisner Technique focused studios, Art Sake Acting Studios and ClassAct Studios in Orlando, FL. During this time he also began working on stage at the Orlando REP Theatre, then at EPCOT for Disney’s Holidays Around the World. In 2014, after getting cast in a supporting role in the film Term Life starring Vince Vaughn, Jose moved with his family to Atlanta to further pursue his tv/film career. Upon arrival, Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre was his first artistic home as they cast him back onstage for their Theatre for the Very Young series “The Lizard and EL Sol.”
You may have encountered his content creation with his family on their Youtube channel, MaJeliv, which currently has about 186K subscribers and growing. They’ve recently added 2 other channels to their slate, MaJeliv Creative and MaJeliv India.
All along the way, Jose has felt the call to teach and share what he’s learned on his journey. He’s taught and coached young actors from primary school age up through high school. More recently, he’s also trained young adults and adults well into adulthood. He fully understands and embraces the call of the artist and the teaching artist. He studies and develops his craft daily and intends on staying ready to respond to wherever God will send him to serve next.
